Del Sur Taqueria and Cantina is a locally, extremely popular restaurant with two locations, one in Statesboro and the other in Pooler. The restaurant's first location was established in 2017 in Statesboro, right on the corner of Georgia Southern's famous "Blue Mile". Because of its prime location, it quickly accumulated a loyal crowd of customers. It quickly became a popular spot for game day rallies, birthday celebrations, and affordable dinner for college students seeking a great atmosphere and great food. The popular demand in Statesboro encouraged the owner to open the official second location in Pooler in Spring of 2022. Both locations of the restaurant get quite busy, but they offer corn hole and a fully stocked bar for guests while they wait on a table.
Now... let's get in to the fun stuff! Del Sur has quite the extensive menu serving tex-mex dishes with a twist for brunch, lunch, dinner, and drinks! The best thing about Del Sur is that there are options for everyone, even the picky eaters! To start, our personal favorites for appetizers are the warm jalapeno fries served with creamy ranch, or the tangy sweet and spicy booyah shrimp. Each table also is served with chips and salsa, and we highly recommend pairing it with a side of guacamole and queso.
The brunch menu is to die for. It has everything from french toast, to chicken and waffles, to a hash-brown/egg scramble bowl! We recommend taking brunch to the next level by enjoying their top notch bloody mary, but if you're feeling really crazy we also really like the mimosa tower.
Secondly, overall the lunch/dinner menu is what appeals to us most. Our top three favorite tacos to get during the lunch and dinner hours are the Sweet Heat: crispy fried chicken, lettuce, mango-habanero relish, ranch, sweet chili sauce, queso fresco & bacon, the Philly Cheesesteak: tender philly meat, onions, peppers & melted provolone cheese; topped with crème fraîche & scallions, and the Barbacoa: barbacoa Korean style bbq beef, sweet fried plantain, Jamaican relish & cotija cheese.
If you aren't appealed tacos, we also
highly recommend the skillet chicken quesadilla. It has a pineapple relish with seasoned chicken packed in to a tortilla with a lot of cheese, and it's quite delicious with some ranch too. There are of course a lot of healthy options as well. We personally really enjoyed the tortilla soup; it is chicken broth based and consists of hearty beans, rice, corn, and tomatoes. It's great for colder days. In our opinion, something like the steak salad is more fitting for a warmer day. The salad is made up of: seared steak, guacamole, black beans, corn & pico de gallo topped with queso fresco crumbles; served with fiesta ranch.
Dessert is of course served as well, the Oreo Fried Ice Cream calls our name the most, consisting of: vanilla ice cream covered in Oreos, fried & topped with whipped cream & chocolate sauce.
Aside from food, we have to admit Del Sur has a stellar bar menu. They offer not only mimosa towers, but also mojito towers, shot towers, and even margarita towers. Individual drinks are served as well. Our favorite is the Blackberry Mojito or the chocolate White Russian. It's safe to say that if you plan on grabbing a drink at Del Sur, you may want to order an Uber for the ride home, because those drinks are so good you can't stick to just having one.
Overall, both locations have a fairly identical menu. However, during seasons and different holidays, they often offer specials. This usually includes a special appetizer, entree and drink. Their favorite was from this past fall when they approached a creative twist on Chick-Fil- A's honey pimento sandwich and made it in to a taco!
Although we haven't tried everything, the whole menu sounds good and is so large that we will have to continue making trips to Del Sur. We highly recommend that you try too!
