Luxury Dining with Southern Flair: An Evening at Chart House Savannah

Savannah, Georgia is a city steeped in history and charm, and its culinary scene reflects that. Recently, I had the pleasure of dining at Chart House, a waterfront restaurant that manages to blend classic Southern flavors with a touch of modern elegance.

Location, Location, Location:

Nestled on the historic River Street, Chart House occupies a building constructed from ship's ballast stones in the 1700s. Inside, the recently remodeled interior creates a sleek yet sophisticated atmosphere, a perfect contrast to the weathered exterior that whispers tales of times gone by. But the true star of the location is the unobstructed view of the Savannah River. Whether you choose a table indoors or snag a spot on the sprawling patio, get ready to be mesmerized by the cityscape and the gentle ebb and flow of the river.

A Taste of the South:

The menu at Chart House offers a delightful mix of fresh seafood and succulent steaks, but to truly capture the essence of Southern cuisine, I recommend venturing into their specialty dishes. Here are three that stole the show:

  • Shrimp and Grits: This Lowcountry staple gets a luxurious upgrade at Chart House. Tender, jumbo shrimp are served atop a bed of creamy, stone-ground grits, all finished with a touch of Applewood smoked bacon for a smoky, savory depth.

  • She-Crab Soup: This rich and flavorful soup is a Savannah institution, and Chart House's rendition does not disappoint. Packed with lump crab meat in a creamy, sherry-infused base, this soup is a decadent indulgence that embodies Southern comfort food.

  • Pecan-Crusted Redfish: This dish is a beautiful marriage of Southern hospitality and fresh seafood. A perfectly pan-seared redfish fillet is coated in a crunchy pecan crust, adding a delightful textural contrast and a nutty sweetness that complements the delicate fish.

Sweet Southern Endings:

No Southern dining experience is complete without dessert, and Chart House offers a tempting selection. I opted for the Pecan Pie, a classic that was executed flawlessly. The buttery, flaky crust cradled a gooey, pecan-studded filling, and a scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side added the perfect touch of coolness.

A Night to Remember:

Chart House Savannah offers more than just a meal; it's an experience. From the breathtaking view and the elegant ambiance to the expertly prepared dishes that capture the soul of the South, this restaurant is a gem. So, if you're looking for a fine dining experience infused with Southern charm, look no further than Chart House. You won't be disappointed.
